I wash my chicken, because the chicken is handled by many hands before packaged. Who knows if they're wearing gloves.

Well I guess she would rather eat the nasty chicken that has poop and some hair on it than rinse it off and have since enough to wash her sink out. Unbelievable. Then it cooks in its nasty juice.

Good lord, I wanted to see examples in the comments of people who've tried the recipe, but it's mostly people melting down about washing or not washing your chicken. This is easy science, guys. I tended for years to rinse my chicken, because it's how my mom did it, and her mom. I'm also paranoid about cleaning anything in my kitchen that could have contacted raw chicken right away, so it was a non issue (though more work). One of my best friends looked at me like I was crazy when I told her that I wash my chicken, and she's a fantastic, adventurous cook. We're both still alive and well, despite having different prep methods, and nowadays I don't bother rinsing as often. If you cook it correctly, it'll kill the bacteria anyway.

Just try the damned recipe if you think it sounds nice. Washing the chicken is just a prep step, so if you insist, wash it, pat dry, and move on. Yeesh.

I would have to put that chicken under the broiler to crisp up that skin. I'm pulling it off otherwise. No way I'm eating the rubbery skin right out of the crock pot..

Never understood why people season the skin and then say don’t eat the skin. Take your poultry scissors, butterfly the skin, season the actual meat as well as using a knife to put little slits in the meat and stuff those slits with butter and garlic. Slow cook it on low not hi.

You can't even get all the bacteria off your chicken by washing. I'm going to trust the food experts who say it's safer not to as it reduces cross contamination.

I've always washed whole chickens and Never got sick. but I do wash down my sink and cutting areas after starting to cook my chicken. and I don't run around touching everything when I handle chicken either . you should be washing your hands if you have to do anything other then handle the chicken. shocked more people don't get killed lol

I never met a recipe I didn’t want to change. Wash…don’t wash…who cares?!?!? I agree with the post that noted cooking kills the bacteria, so I didn’t. But if you are gonna freak-out over not washing it, wash the damn thing and move on. I just patted mine dry. I have a small crock-pot, so I used a Cornish game-hen. Patted the bird dry, and brushed it with some butter I melted in the microwave. THEN I sprinkled on the spice rub. I also squeezed a half of a lime into the cavity and stuffed the lime and a couple of fresh rosemary sprigs into the cavity.  Then I proceeded with the instructions. Was it the BEST roast chicken I ever ate? No; but it was NOT the WORST either. It WAS fast and easy, and the results were more than acceptable.
